~Queen Paige Bailey~
Welcome everyone to the 63rd Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo in beautiful Wallowa County. My name is Paige Bailey, and I am honored to be the 2008 Chief Joseph Days Queen. It is my distinct pleasure to travel around the northwest representing one the best outdoor rodeos in the county and has always been one of my biggest dreams. This is an experience of a lifetime.
I am 17 years old, and will be a senior this fall at Joseph High School where I hold the office of secretary in our FFA chapter, I am the treasurer for the Student Council, I am a member of the National Honor Society. I am on the Varsity Volleyball, Basketball and Track teams at Joseph High School. The high light of our season this year was winning the 1A State Basketball Championship against another great little rodeo town, the St Paul Buckaroos!
I would like to introduce you to my mount for this summer. His name is Smarty and he is a 7 year old sorrel quarter horse. He has three white socks and a snip on his nose that looks like he should be in a “drink milk” commercial. He is a sports car on four legs and is a lot of fun to ride.
I live with my parents John and Cindy Bailey, and my brother Lane just outside of Joseph. My family linage has been involved with Chief Joseph Days Rodeo since 1946 when my great grandparents, Harley and Bonnie Tucker, supplied the stock for the first rodeo held on the Wallowa Lake moraine. My Grandparents, Dave and Darlene Turner and my parents continue to be involved in the production of Chief Joseph Days today. Give a wave to the CJD stage coach driver, that’s my granddad! I am proud to say I am a third generation CJD queen and all of my aunts and several cousins are past CJD royalty. I would like to thank my parents, my brother, and the rest of my family and friends for all of their support, whether it is on the basketball court or carrying a flag as one of the Tuckerettes. They are all consistently there for me. My parents have taken on the role of my groomsmen this year and I couldn’t be more appreciative. To Judy and Karleen, thank you so much for designing and sewing our gorgeous outfits, it has been an honor to show them off this summer. I want to extend my gratitude and thanks to our court chaperone, Gail Hillock. She coordinates the queen contest, schedules our appearances, chooses our outfits for the day, does our hair and is our driver, thank you Gail for all you do! Above all, I want to extend a big thank you to the Joseph Chamber for giving us this wonderful opportunity to represent such a wonderful rodeo and community. Finally, to both Shelby’s, thank you guys for making this an unforgettable summer.
I invite you to participate in the annual festivities of the Chief Joseph Days Rodeo always held the last full weekend in July. We offer 4 PRCA rodeo performances, dances, parades, a golf tournament, cowboy breakfasts, Friendship Feast and Indian dancing, enjoy the bronze statue lined main street of Joseph and of course beautiful Wallowa Lake.
Now turn your attention to some of the greatest competitors of rodeo, whether they are two legged or four, and you will witness some of the best exhibits of the sport around. Let’s Rodeo!

~Princess Shelby Harshman~
Hi everyone and welcome to the 63rd Annual Chief Joseph Days PRCA Rodeo! I am Princess Shelby Harshman and am proud to represent CJD on the 2008 Rodeo Court.
I was born and raised in Wallowa County. I am the daughter of John and Carol Harshman, and the younger sister of Chris Harshman. I live in Joseph with my family and am blessed to have lived here all my life. I have learned many things living here, such as a little dirt never hurt no one, and if you fall off your horse you get right back on! I have been involved with horses for many years and have three of my own. I learned to ride when I was about 2 years old on a little pony. I soon upgraded to my first horse, Sunnyboy, around 5 years old. For as long as I can remember I have gone to every Chief Joseph Days Rodeo. I always wanted to be the cowgirl on the horse smiling and waving to all the rodeo fans! And here I am today, 17 years old and a Princess of the CJD Rodeo! My mount for this year is named Lilly. Lilly is a beautiful 12 year old breeding stock paint mare owned and leased to me by Robin and Lowell Lewis.
I am going to be a Senior at Joseph High School this coming year. I am involved in basketball, volleyball, National Honor Society and the Joseph FFA Chapter. This coming August will be my 3rd year in FFA where I show a hog and my 8th year in 4-H where I compete with my horse at our local county fair.
I would like to give a special thanks to the community, my family, and everyone who has supported me! I want to say thank you again to Robin, Lowell, and Trevor Lewis for allowing me to use Lilly. And last but not least our wonderful court chaperone, the CJD Rodeo Committee and all the generous Sponsors! It would not be possible without you!
Now let’s sit back, cheer on the participants and enjoy the performance of the 63rd Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo! One of the Best in the West!!

~Shelby Tienhaara~
Welcome rodeo fans, to beautiful Wallowa County, the home of the 63rd Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo! I am Princess Shelby Tienhaara and I am truly honored to have the privilege of traveling the northwest promoting one of the best small rodeos in the country!
I was born and raised in Wallowa County. I have lived on a ranch outside of Joseph in the beautiful Wallowa Valley my entire life, with my parents Dick and Kerry Tienhaara and my younger sister, Malinda. Having lived on a ranch I have been around horses for as long as I can remember. I joined 4-H when I was nine years old and began showing horses at county fair and local shows. My mount this year is a six year old bay quarter horse gelding named Lenas Dry Nic. But we just call him Bodie for short. He is a little guy who thinks he can run with the wind (even if he is getting lapped by all the other horses in the pasture!)
Chief Joseph Days has always been about family for me. It’s a time when the whole family can get together for a day. I’ve been to CJD every year since I can remember. As a little girl my favorite part of the rodeo was watching the court girls do their run-ins. Seeing that always made me imagine myself on a big, shiny horse racing around the arena. I was lucky enough, as I got older to have my dream become a reality.
For the past two years I have worked at Joe’s Place Pizza at the head of Wallowa Lake as a waitress. This fall I will be a senior at Joseph High School. I am a member of the Joseph FFA chapter and the National Honor Society.
I would like to give special thanks to everyone who has helped me out this year. My family has been there every step of the way. They have helped me earn the title of Chief Joseph Days Princess! I would also like to thank Greg and June Becker for all of their help with Bodie. They really helped Bodie and I become a team. Their support has been amazing! The Joseph Chamber and all of CJD’s sponsors deserve a big thank you. Our little rodeo would not be what it is today if it weren’t for them. And last, but not least I would like to thank our court chaperones, Gail and Celeste Hillock. They have a way of making everything more fun!
I’m glad you could make it. Now get ready for a fast paced night while sitting on the edge of your seat as you cheer on the cowboys and cowgirls of the 63rd Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo!
