5th Annual CJD Ranch Rodeo packed with excitement, action and great raffle prizes
CJD Ranch Rodeo extends Saddle Bronc Jackpot to participants outside of Wallowa County. Great auction items added for Fridays auction.
The 5th Annual Chief Joseph Days Ranch Rodeo, a fundraiser for the CJD Scholarship Fund, kicks off Friday, June 29. The Ranch Rodeo that is leading up to the 67th Annual Chief Joseph Days Rodeo has been a successful scholarship fundraiser for the last four years.
In addition to the college scholarships awarded to Chief Joseph Days Royalty Court Members, three $1,000 scholarships are awarded to Wallowa County High school students; Wallowa, Enterprise and Joseph one each respectively .
The activities start with a trail ride Friday, June 29, at 2:30 p.m., from the Harley Tucker Memorial Grounds to the moraines at Wallowa Lake and then back through Joseph.
A big Roast Beef Dinner follows the trail ride Friday evening at the Thunder Room with “Happy Hour” at 6 p.m and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 ea, or $32.00 for two. Children ten and under $8.00, and are available at the Joseph Chamber and the Sports Corral in Joseph. Tickets will also be available at the door, but people are encouraged to purchase dinner tickets in advance.
The band “Last Call” will be there to entertain during Happy Hour.
Following the dinner will be silent and live auctions, a Calcutta to auction off the ranch rodeo teams, and more entertainment. The auction will feature items including one ton of hay, a load of gravel, a glider made by Bronson Lumber, a fire pit, steak dinners and much more.
As of June 18, nine out of twelve teams have already signed up to compete at the Ranch Rodeo on Saturday, June 30. If you are still interested in participating contact Chief Joseph Days at 541-432-1015.
This year’s teams will consist of three members, two of which have to live in Wallowa County, one can be from out of the county.
The CJD Ranch Rodeo Committee has decided to extend the saddle bronc competition to competitors from outside of Wallowa County. Entry fee for the jackpot event is $75, with $300 added to the purse.
The rodeo will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the finest Sheep Riders Wallowa County has to offer. The Ranch Rodeo follows at 5 p.m.
Team roping, team penning, team branding and steer decorating are on the list for the team competition. The bronc riding event will finish off the evening with a jackpot competition.
The stick horse race for the Peewee cowboys and cowgirls will entertain the crowd during the event.
Awards will include $100 for the Best Cowgirl, spurs for the Tophand Award Winners, and belt buckles for the Championship Team.
Prizes for this year’s raffle is a three night stay for two at Southpoint Casino in Las Vegas, including two Plaza seat tickets for the National Finals Rodeo for two performances.
Raffle tickets are $5.00 each, or three for $10.00.
Tickets for the ranch rodeo are available at the gate, $5.00 per person, or $15 per family (up to four family members).
